The roads in Beijing

So as not to disappoint visitors from Once with the lack of information about Chinese roads on this blog, here’s some photos that I took on my recent visit to Beijing.

The first is a picture of the bus stop outside my fiancée’s apartment block, with the wide open highway stretching off as far as you can see (which with the pollution in Beijing, isn’t very far):

This is a photo of the road outside IKEA:

and this shot was taken from the 17th floor of the hotel Shi’s sister was staying in (I’ll be generous here and say that it’s probably mist you’re looking through, not smog):

So there you have it, lots of roads and big ones at that. Obviously not all roads in Beijing—or indeed China in general—are big, but it sometimes feels that way, especially when you’re trying to cross them.
