1001-redux

(not even sure what ‘redux’ means, something about revisiting, re-assessing something?)

Having spent some more time digging around 1001 and trying out it’s features, I’m rapidly coming to the conclusion that it’s probably not for me at this moment.

As mentioned in the earlier post, the upload doesn’t suit me as well as the FlickrExport plugin for iPhoto does – there just seems to be more flexibility to categorize photos in FlickrExport. I’m also not keen on having another app running in the background.

I think that the whole ‘stepping into streams’ thing would work for me if more of my friends were on Flickr and adding photos. Without a base of people I want to keep up to date with on Flickr, 1001 doesn’t really have much to look at. Checking a particular tag is a bit too random for me, too.

Overall, it’s just too much on the border of being useful for me to really use it a lot. The fact that you have to run the app and keep it running tips it over the edge into being an psychological intrusion. If it could be set to run all the time as what I suppose you’d call a faceless background app then I’d be happier with it as I wouldn’t have to think about it at all.

Technorati, portraits and 1001

OK, so I’ve spent a bit of time on the Technorati site and I think I understand how tagging works now. I just have to get on and use them and find out how they are integrated into the various bits of software I use for blogging-related activities.

Another thing that has become apparent is that I must, must sort out my picture to go with all these directories. Technorati, Flickr, Gravatar all could do with one. I already use an image on my mac address book entry, but I don’t think it’s the right image to represent me outside of my immediate circle of friends. I’m looking forward to a day spent agonizing over what picture to use…and possibly posing in front of the camera…

Lastly, I’m trying out 1001 which works in conjunction with ecto to provide access to Flickr (this is my understanding of it, anyway). So far I prefer the iPhoto plugin, FlickrExport to 1001’s own upload function.

Later!

Scaffolding shot

DSC01166.JPG Originally uploaded by escdotdot.

A shot of scaffolding against Sidney Sussex College buildings taken earlier today. Played around with it a bit in Photoshop, bumped up the contrast and muted the greens of the tree and the mesh at the top of the pic, in order to emphasise the silvery metalwork.

The original shot was taken at a slight angle, which I’ve corrected in PS, but it still looks slightly off and I can’t work out if that’s my imagination or not.

Love the film, love the poster design!! Will be on the lookout for more stuff like this to fill the wide-open-spaces on my flat’s walls. Saul Bass to Le Corbusier-type stuff.

Come to think of it, I had an old Corb poster somewhere.

I’ll spend some money on getting a good frame for this, even though it’s creased and had a hole punched through it in the post. Something thin and metallic, I think.
